As we welcome you all to yet another year of football here on the Gold Coast, the 2018 season is set to be the most exciting yet busiest one yet! We’ve put together some brief points for you all leading into the season to prepare for everything 2018 has to offer!
Our junior season kicks off on the 16th of February with the lightning premiership rounds beginning for our competition age groups, with the Miniroos beginning on the 24th of February. The lightning premierships have been introduced to fill the void left with the interruption that the Commonwealth Games will have on our season, with teams fighting it out in a short window for the title of Lightning Premiership champions!
The Women’s Premier League has been looked at substantially with a few franchises pulling out after last season, but a resolution has been made and we move forward. The women’s competition will now feature both Premier League and Coast League One teams in a combined league, with subsequent finals being played in both as the year comes to a close. The women’s metro competition will again run as per last season which was a highly successful.
We introduce and welcome three new teams into the Premier League this season from Coast League One- Tweed, Mudgeeraba and Nerang. After Magic declined their invitation to the Premier League for the 2018 season, it allowed 3rd place from the 2017 season in Nerang automatic promotion. The expanded 10 team competition will feature a pre-season cup before the April break with our 9 Coast League One teams, which also feature three premier league clubs fielding teams. This is a transition period for Football Gold Coast, with the competition set to join as one for the 2019 season before a further split for the 2020 season. Stay tuned to the full details of this in near future!
Football Gold Coast
We welcome a host of changes throughout the organisation as a whole. Competition management has been brought back in house which Football Gold Coast will control, as well as welcoming a new receptionist in Nicole to our office family. The season is set to go on hiatus for the duration of the Commonwealth Games, however we believe that the preparation that has gone into these times. We welcome a new board with a new vision spearheaded by their Chairman Paul Rushton with exciting times around the corner! Our big brother up the M1 Football Queensland also see new changes in their ranks for the 2018 season and beyond so we wish them all the best in their endeavours!
