Musgrave Soccer Club have always done their best to support all members regardless of their ability and situation. This is an open letter from club president Michelle Shultz outlining the work that the club has done in recent years and some recent partnerships the club has formed to increase their exposure in the footballing community.
As president of Musgrave Soccer Club we have always had the vision to be an all inclusive club. I feel that football on the Gold Coast has always been about the top leagues and often a negative side of it. I want football on the Gold Coast to be highlighted on what good we have done for the local community.
We have worked hard over the last 5 years to run a program for children with special needs and were the first club on the Gold Coast to run a program for them every Sunday morning. The kids love attending and it makes it all worthwhile when we see the smiles on their faces every Sunday morning.
We also have 25 refugee children that we support to come along and play football even if the parents cannot afford it. We find a way to make it happen and we have seen how much this has helped their people skills over the last few years.
Most recently, we have a strong partnership with Griffith University for all students to come along and play football. We encourage all to participate in both the male and female competitions, hence why we have 3 women senior teams and 5 men’s teams. We work together to make it a friendly club for them to join especially as young people new to the country or from interstate sometimes need a bit of support from the locals to get used to their surroundings. It has been a great way for them to meet members and also to play at whatever level suits them. As a result of this, we won the women’s club championship on the Gold Coast and this was highly due to the partnership we have with Griffith.
We will always look to be an all inclusive club and continue striving for our goals to be the best possible club we can be for our members and local community.
