Matildas International and current Melbourne City midfielder Aivi Luik recently visited Palm Beach Soccer Club to present the club with her Matildas jersey, Melbourne City jersey and her 2016, 2017 and 2018 W-League Championship medals to the club.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, Luik also announced a new initiative with the club, starting the Aivi Luik Scholarship for emerging female talent within the club.
Having won multiple W-League titles with both Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City, Luik has also played in ten different club teams within eight different countries, ranging from the US, Canada, Ukraine, Denmark, Iceland, England and Norway.
Throughout her time playing, she has won seven championships, three cups, one minor premiership and won an MVP along the way.
Her international career saw success with the national team, being part of the Asian Cup winning team in 2010.
Starting her footballing journey in Palm Beach at age 11, she played with the boys teams until 15 and played with the open women’s team also.
Having made multiple state representative and national schoolgirl teams, Luik was awarded a scholarship to play football in the USA, captaining her team to the NCAA finals and winning the MVP during the tournament.
Palm Beach President Duncan McKenna had nothing but praise for Luik and her career.
“We are incredibly proud of her and all her achievements. She has given inspiration to a lot of girls throughout our club today that they to can make it at the next level,” said McKenna.
When speaking to the young up and coming stars at the club, Luik had one piece of advice for them.
“Set your goals high and don’t listen to anyone who says that you can’t or that you are not good enough.”
