Gold Coast Knights FC have progressed to the final stages of the FFA Cup Preliminary rounds after winning their Round 5 and Round 6 six games.
After qualifying as the local representative, the Knights defeated Gold Coast United in the local derby 3-2 at the Croatian Sports Centre.
Jarrod Kyle opened the scoring for the home side before two quick goals from United gave the NPL side an advantage.
It wasn’t until the end of the second half that the Knights managed to score two quick goals to regain the lead, after Max Brown equalised and Morgan Saunders capitalised to end the half.
With both sides coming out with a more defensive orientated mindset, the Knights managed to hold on to progress through to the next game against SWQ Thunder.
With a busy schedule and a quick turn around, the Knights travelled up to Toowoomba to face the local NPL side.
They once again took the lead through Max Brown before their opening goal being cancelled out midway through the first half, as SWQ Thunder capitalised on a succession of attacking plays.
It was once again Morgan Saunders who popped up for the travelling Knights to secure the 2-1 victory and therefore advance to the last preliminary round against Sunshine Coast Fire.
Head coach Grae Piddick was quick to praise his side for their continued efforts.
“The boys have had a busy schedule and have managed to pull off great results not only in the FFA Cup but also the league. We are lucky to have a deep squad and it shows in these games.”
The game will be played in the Sunshine Coast on Saturday the 9thof June with the time and venue to be confirmed.
